DOCKET PRINTING

Products in a sale can be sent to a docket printer so that they can be made/prepared. This can be done automatically or manually.

Each docket printer is set up with a physical printer that will actually print the docket, a location to set which tills will use this docket printer, and tags to specify which products in a sale will print on this docket.

Docket Printer Settings

The Docket Printer Settings
Name
The name you want to use to identify this docket printer. If you have multiple docket printers, make sure each name is clear and easy to work out.

Example

“Entrees, Mains, Fryer”, “Cold Drinks”, “Pass” and not “Left KP” and “Right KP”

Host and Port
This is the network address and port of the physical printer will print the docket. A physical printer can be used with more than 1 Docket Printer, so 1 physical printer could print a separate docket for the entrees, mains, and desserts, and the dockets can be distributed around the kitchen as needed.
Printer Type
This determines the commands used to communicate with the printer as well as other printer settings such as the width of the paper and the number of characters per line. Choose the model of printer you are using, or a model that is compatible with the printer you are using.
Location
All terminals in the specified location will send a docket to this printer unless the till has all kitchen printing disabled.
Trigger Tags
Products in a sale with the specified tags (or child tags of these tags) will cause a docket to print and will print on that docket.
Non-Trigger Tags
Products in a sale with the specified non-trigger tags (or child tags of these tags) will print on a docket but will not cause a docket to print by themselves.
Template
This is the template of how the docket will be formatted and what details other than the products will be printed on it.

Example

Example

A café has a coffee printer and a cake printer. They want the coffee and the cakes to go out to a table together, so they want both printers to show all coffees and cakes together so that staff know that when there is another part of the order that needs to be readied, but they only want the coffee printer to print if there is coffee and the cake printer to print if there is a cake.

Order 2 – Customer orders just coffee. The coffee printer will print the coffee. The cake printer will not print.

To unassign a tag, untick the box for that tag.

What The Docket Looks Like

The layout and formatting of the docket is decided by the template. Products can also be grouped and sorted into Print Headers to make them easier to read and work for cooking/preparation staff.

Editing the Template

When you create a docket printer, the template will automatically be filled in with a default template. To change and edit the template, you can type your changes directly into the template box.

If you make changes to a template and want to revert to the default, delete all text out of the template box, save, and close the printer tab. When you edit that printer again, it should have reverted to the default template.

Print Headers are used to group products together on the docket. They are sorted in order to make it easier for the staff to work with, despite whatever order they were added to the sale.

Example

Headers of Entrée, Main, Dessert in that order will put the entrée products first under an Entrée heading, then the Mains, then the Desserts, and allow the chef to more easily see the order and time the courses.

Print Headers are assigned to tags and can also be assigned to individual products.

When the Docket Will Print

Docket printers are designed to print automatically whenever an item with a trigger tag is in the sale.

The till will do a docket print check for products that need to be printed in these events:

  • Finalising a sale.
  • Saving a an a la carte table.

If a product has been printed to a docket printer during a sale, it will not print to that printer again during the same sale even if another check is done.

Holding a sale using the hold/recall button will not make the till do a docket print check.

Setting Up Automatic Printing

Tills will automatically use any docket printers that have been set up in the HQ with their location.

There is an option to enable/disable using the docket printers on a till in the till settings.

  1. On the Till open the settings sidebar by pressing on the hamburger menu (3 horizontal lines).
  2. Press on Printing.
  3. Scroll down to the ‘Print Kitchen Docket’ tick box.
  4. Tick this box to enable printing to all docket printers in this till’s location. Untick this box to disable printing to all docket printers.
