Rear Screen Ads

The Rear Screen is the customer-facing display connected to your till that shows promotional content while customers wait. This guide is for venue managers and staff setting up or managing ad campaigns in Paimnt HQ.

What you’ll learn

  • Create and schedule ads with precise control over dates, times, days, and locations
  • Manage active, paused, and expired ads from the dashboard
  • Configure global ad rotation settings for your whole organisation

Understanding the Rear Screen

The Rear Screen automatically cycles through your active ads — you set the rules, and the screen handles the rest.

How Ad Scheduling Works

An ad only displays when all five of the following conditions are true at the same time:

  1. Ad status is On
  2. Today’s date is within the configured Start Date → End Date range
  3. The current time is within the configured Daily Start Time → End Time window
  4. Today matches a selected Day of the Week
  5. The till is at one of the selected Specific Locations

If any one condition is not met, the ad will not display — even if everything else is correct.

Example: You set up a “Friday Happy Hour” ad — status is On, the date range is current, and the time window is 5pm–7pm. But you forgot to tick Friday in Days of Week. The ad won’t show, even though everything else is correct.

Ad Scheduling Options

OptionWhat it controlsWhen to use it
Start Date & End DateThe campaign period (e.g., Jan 1–Jan 31)Time-limited promotions, seasonal campaigns
Daily Start & End TimeHours the ad shows each day (e.g., 11am–2pm)Meal-period promotions, happy hour ads
Days of WeekWhich days the ad appearsWeekday-only specials, weekend promotions
Specific LocationsWhich venue sites show the adLocation-specific offers, multi-site campaigns
DurationHow long each ad shows per rotation cycleShort for simple visuals; longer for content that needs reading time

Refresh Cycle: Changes Are Not Instant

The Rear Screen checks for schedule updates approximately every 30 seconds. After making changes, the screen may continue showing the old content for up to 30 seconds.

To apply changes immediately, log into the till — this triggers an instant refresh.

Example: If you deactivate a Christmas promotion at 11:00 AM, it may still appear until 11:00:30 AM unless you log into the till.

How to Manage Existing Ads

Each ad appears as a card in the dashboard grid showing its current status.

  1. Locate the ad in the grid
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the ad card

  1. Select the action you need:
Ad management options: Edit, Deactivate, Delete
OptionWhat it doesWhen to use
EditModify name, duration, schedule, or imageUpdate campaign dates, swap images, adjust timing
Deactivate / PauseStop the ad from showing — keeps it in the systemPause seasonal campaigns, temporarily disable offers
DeletePermanently remove the adRemove campaigns you will never use again

Deactivate vs Delete

Deactivate keeps the ad in the system with all its settings intact. You can reactivate it at any time — ideal for seasonal promotions (e.g., Christmas, EOFY sales) you plan to run again.

Delete permanently removes the ad and cannot be undone. Only delete campaigns you are certain you will never need again.

How to Configure Global Ad Rotation Settings

These settings apply across your whole organisation and control how the Rear Screen behaves at all locations.

  1. Select the profile icon in the top left of Paimnt HQ
  2. From the menu, select Organisational Settings
  3. Scroll to the Ad Rotation section at the bottom of the page

Accessing Organisational Settings via profile icon Ad Rotation section in Organisational Settings

SettingWhat it does
Enable Ad RotationTurn ad rotation on or off for the entire organisation
Resume Ads After Order / Delay (seconds)How many seconds after a transaction ends before ads resume
Enable Order Mode DisplayWhen On: shows the customer’s live order on the Rear Screen during the transaction. When Off: continues showing ads during the transaction
Title Colour & Rear Screen ThemeDefault display options — customisable

Best Practice: Order Mode Display

Most venues turn Order Mode Display on — customers appreciate seeing their order confirmed on screen as items are rung up. It also reduces “did you add my extra?” queries at the counter.

You should now be able to…

  • Create a Rear Screen ad with a scheduled campaign period, daily time window, and location targeting
  • Manage existing ads — editing, pausing, or deleting them from the dashboard
  • Configure global ad rotation behaviour in Organisational Settings
  • Force an immediate screen refresh by logging into the till after making changes
