Navigate the Till Screen
Understanding the Till Screen
The till screen is your command center for taking orders. Think of it like a digital notepad that remembers everything - what customers ordered, how much they owe, and special requests.
The Three Main Areas
How to Read the Top Information Bar
The information bar at the top of your screen keeps you informed about your till’s status and gives you quick access to important tools.

💡 Tip: If the online indicator shows red, you can still take sales - they’ll sync automatically when the connection returns.
1 - Side Bar Menu
Press the side bar menu icon to open the menu with extra options and information such as settings, tools, and clerk logout.
2 - Staff Member Indicator
This shows the currently logged in staff member. You can also press this to log out and go to the staff member login screen.
3 - Date and Time
This shows the date and time. It is taken from the time of your device running the Paimnt Till software (or webpage for web POS).
4 - Mesh Viewer
The mesh viewer window in the till app allows us to see which tills are connected to the current till as peers, and which till owns each table or tab.The number next to the mesh icon will display the number of peers the till is currently directly connected to.
5 - Print Queue
This shows the number of print jobs sent to a printer that has not yet printed or failed.
6 - Open Tables Indicator
This shows the number of bistro and a la carte tables that are currently in progress across your whole site and have not been closed. They could be held or currently open on a till and in the process of ordering. You can press this to bring up the table selector.
7 - Held Sales Indicator
This shows the number of sales that have been held for later finalising. This includes any table transactions that have been held. You can press this to bring up the recall sales window.
8 - Online Indicator
This shows whether the till is currently connected to the Master Database for your site. If it is not connected, any changes made in the HQ will not appear on the till and any sales made at the till will not be seen in the HQ or other tills.
If you have QR integrations set up, you will have an additional indicator for this.
How to Check Your Till Number and Clerk
Why this matters: Each till has a unique number and location name. Knowing this helps with troubleshooting and tracking which till processed each sale.
Check your till number
- Press the side bar menu button at the top left of the screen
- Look below the logo - you’ll see your POS/Till number and location name

Check who’s logged in
- Press the side bar menu button at the top left of the screen
- Look below the logo - you’ll see the current logged in clerk name

✅ Best practice: Always check you’re logged in with your own credentials at the start of your shift. This ensures sales are tracked correctly.
Understanding the Order View
The Order View is where you’ll spend most of your time - it’s the running list of everything in your current sale.

📖 What this means: A “product line” is one row in your order list. If a customer orders 3 coffees, that’s one product line showing “3x Coffee”.
