How to Add Tips to a Sale

You can add one tip per sale as either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage. Adding a tip a second time will replace the existing tip.

How to Change the Price Level of a Sale

If you’ve set up multiple price lists for your products (e.g., standard pricing and happy hour pricing), you can switch between them during a sale.

< link-card title=“Adding Or Editing Prices on Products” href="/article/11/#adding-or-editing-prices" >

Understanding price levels

Price levels are different price lists assigned to products:

  • Price List 1: Often your standard pricing
  • Price List 2: Could be member pricing, happy hour pricing, etc.

When you switch price levels during a sale:

  • Product buttons update to show the new prices
  • Products you add after switching use the new price level
  • Products already in the sale keep their original price

💡 Tip: If a product doesn’t have a price at the selected level, the button shows “Unknown Product” and will use another assigned price list when added.

Switching between price levels

Steps:

  1. Look at the top right corner of the order view—this shows the current price level
  2. Press on the price level indicator
  3. It toggles between Price List 1 and Price List 2
  4. Any new products added will use the selected price level

⚠️ Important: Changing the price level does not affect products already added to the sale. Only new products use the new pricing.

How to Discount a Sale

You can apply discounts to reduce the sale subtotal using either fixed dollar amounts or percentages. Multiple discounts can be applied to the same sale.

Discounts appear in the order view below the products in a section marked “discounts:”

< img src=“imagesdocsoperationsoperations-discount-order-view-example.png” alt=“Discount in the Order View” >

🚨 Heads up: You cannot discount more than the current subtotal. The system will cap the discount at the subtotal amount.

Understanding discount types

Fixed dollar discounts

How fixed discounts work

Fixed discounts remove a specific dollar amount from the subtotal.

Example scenario:

Situation 1: You apply a $40 discount to a $38 sale

  • The system adjusts the discount to $38 (to bring subtotal to $0)

< img src=“imagesdocsoperationsoperations-discount-sale-fixed-discount-overdiscount.png” alt="$40 discount on a $38 sale" >

Situation 2: You then add an $8 item to the same sale

  • The discount increases to $40 as originally intended
  • New subtotal: $46 - $40 = $6 due

Applying an open fixed dollar discount

Requirement: You need a Fixed Discount function button.

  1. Type the dollar amount to discount using the number pad
  2. Press the Fixed Discount button
  3. The amount is removed from the subtotal and a discount line appears

Applying a preset fixed dollar discount

Requirement: You need a Preset $ Discount button with the amount configured in button properties.

< link-card title=“Adding product buttons and other components to the grid” href="/article/5/#how-to-add-items-to-the-grid" >

Steps:

  1. Press the preset discount button (e.g., “$5 Off”)
  2. The preset amount is removed from the subtotal and a discount line appears

💡 Tip: Preset discount buttons are great for standard promotions that your staff use frequently.

Percentage discounts

How percentage discounts work

Percentage discounts remove a percentage of the subtotal. If you add or remove items after applying the discount, it automatically recalculates.

⚠️ Important: When using multiple discounts, order matters. Each percentage discount calculates based on the subtotal after previous discounts have been applied.

Example scenarios:

Scenario 1: 10% discount, then $5 discount on a $38 sale

  • 10% of $38 = $3.80 off → New subtotal: $34.20
  • Then $5 off → Final subtotal: $29.20

< img src=“imagesdocsoperationsoperations-discount-percent-order-percent-first.png” alt=“Applying the % Discount First” >

Scenario 2: $5 discount, then 10% discount on a $38 sale

  • $5 off → New subtotal: $33.00
  • 10% of $33 = $3.30 off → Final subtotal: $29.70

< img src=“imagesdocsoperationsoperations-discount-percent-order-fixed-first.png” alt=“Applying the Fixed Discount First” >

Scenario 3: Two 10% discounts on a $38 sale

  • First 10% of $38 = $3.80 off → New subtotal: $34.20
  • Second 10% of $34.20 = $3.42 off → Final subtotal: $30.78
  • (This is not 20% off—each calculates from the reduced subtotal)
